St. Pete Custom Doors builds custom solid wood sliding barn doors in St. Petersburg, FL, from plain plank doors to panelled and hand-carved designs, and installs the track and hardware.

Barn Door Styles We Build

Plank and Z-brace doors

Tongue-and-groove boards on a brace, the classic farmhouse slider, in a wood chosen to stay flat.

Panelled and framed doors

Stile-and-rail construction like an entry door, which keeps a wide slider from cupping.

Carved barn doors

Relief-carved panels on a sliding door, so a study or dining room gets the same work as the front entry.

Double sliding pairs

Two leaves parting in the middle for wide openings between living spaces.

Track, Header and Clearance

A solid wood slider is heavy, so the track is fixed into a header or blocking in the wall, never into drywall alone, and the rollers are rated above the door's weight. The door needs clear wall beside the opening at least as wide as the door itself, free of switches, vents and trim, and a floor guide to stop it swinging.

Privacy and Sound with a Sliding Door

A barn door hangs in front of the opening rather than inside a frame, so it leaves gaps at the sides and bottom and does not seal like a hinged door. We size it to overlap the opening generously. For a bathroom or bedroom where privacy matters, a hinged or pocket carved interior door may be the better choice, and we will say so.

What Affects the Cost of a Barn Door

Size, wood species, whether it is plank, panelled or carved, and the track and hardware finish. Most of our custom doors run $4,000 to $20,000, installed; the exact number is set in a written quote once the opening is measured and the materials are chosen.

FAQ

Barn Door FAQ

Can a barn door be used on a bathroom?

Yes, with limits. It will not seal like a hinged door, so we size it to overlap the opening and fit a latch; where full privacy matters we suggest a hinged or pocket door.

Do you install barn door hardware I already bought?

Yes, if it is rated for the door's weight and the wall has solid framing to fix it to.

Will a solid wood barn door warp indoors?

Much less than an exterior door, in conditioned air. The wood is still acclimated and every face sealed so it stays flat.
